In order to build the just, democratic, and sustainable economy that Our Bronx deserves, we take a three-pronged approach in all that we do:

Owning our Bronx together

Co-owning our buildings, land, and workplaces puts both decision-making and wealth back into community hands. We decide together how these assets grow, improve, and serve us. Shared ownership turns individual struggle into collective strength, creating unity, stability, and shared wealth across the Bronx.

Sharing power for sustainable solutions

Institutions shape how power, resources and opportunities move through our communities. By co-governing institutions, we make sure they're responsive, accountable, and centering the people most impacted. When we govern together, we create stronger communities that work for everyone.

Making systems work for all of us

Systems shape every aspect of our lives, deciding who benefits and who gets left behind. They’re the root cause of inequity in our neighborhoods, which will never change unless we transform them. When we create policies and structures that work for everyone, we remove the barriers to stability, well-being, and opportunity. That’s how we move from surviving to thriving in communities we own and govern.

We carry this out through the combined strategies of community organizing, planning, and economic development—for us, by us.

Building community power

Whether it’s residential tenants gathering to address building issues, high school students looking to resolve conflict without arrests, or community members fighting for equitable development—community organizing empowers people to challenge systemic injustice, create solutions, and build power together.

It’s in all we do. Our work provides the resources, tools, and analysis for Bronxites to collectively address issues that impact them. In turn, everyday people become leaders who shift the balance of power and transform our community into one that works for us all.

Planning a future with everyone, for everyone

When broken institutional practices or entire systems get in the way of our ability to thrive, we work to transform them according to our vision. We envision a community that is collectively designed, built, owned, and governed by residents. We are building community-owned assets where we share in the wealth and make decisions collectively to invest back into the health and well-being of the Bronx. These serve as models for how we can remake our economy and our democracy to truly work for all people.

Investing in ourselves

For too long, economic development in the Bronx has failed to deliver shared prosperity across our neighborhoods. Economic development in the Bronx means residents, workers, and businesses collectively shape what gets built and who benefits. By investing in local ownership and community-led projects, we make sure our economy serves the people who live, work, learn and do business here. This is how we develop an economy that works for each and every one of us.
